Use these instructions to install the program on a network and to provide program access to other computers on the network. Discuss the instructions in this section with your network administrator to ensure that installing the program will not affect your network setup.
When you install on a network, you first install the program and data files in a shared location. Then you install the program files on each computer that will use the program and is connected to the network. To install on a network, your network must be fully operational and you must have at least 125 MB of free hard drive space on each computer on the network for the program files. All users that will use the database must have full access to the drive where the database is located.
When you install on a network, the folder where you install the program and data files must be shared for any computer accessing the program. Instructions for doing this are included in this section.
Note – If you are installing the first copy of AgentOffice, with intent of sharing AgentOffice data between networked computers, we recommend your first install be “Single User” or installing on one computer noted in the Installing on One Computer section. This will get the main program installed on one computer and then subsequent installs you will need to follow the instructions in this section.
To install on a network
- To begin, install the program on the network computer where the database will be saved using the installing on one computer setup instructions. This can be any networked computer as long as other computers on the network have access to it. You may want your network technician to assist you during this process.
- Provide access (called sharing) to the location where you installed the program for the computers on the network that will use the program.
- Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows Vista users may see different (but similar) options and commands than those in the instructions below. Information about the different options is provided when possible.
To set up sharing
- On the Start menu, click Run. In the screen that appears, type explorer and click OK.
- Find the location of the drive where you installed the program in Step 1.
- Right-click on the folder where the program resides and click Sharing. (If Sharing is not an option, click Properties. Then, in the screen that appears, click the Sharing tab.)
- Select the Share As or Share this folder option. Do not change the name that appears next to the Shared As option or in the Share name field.
- You must now set the permissions for the folder to full (read, write, and execute access). The process for this varies by operating system so you should contact your network technician for help setting up permissions for the folder.
- Next, on each computer on the network that will use the program, you must map the network drive where the database is saved. Perform the following steps on each computer that will use the program. (Not recommended to use UNC network paths)
To map a network drive
- On your Desktop, double-click on Network Neighborhood (or My Network Places).
- Double-click on the name of the computer where you installed the program in Step 1.
- Right-click on the shared folder and click Map Network Drive.
- In the screen that appears, make sure the network location you are mapping is the shared folder, and the Reconnect at Logon check box is selected and click Finish or OK.
- Before you install the program you should restart your computer. After your computer restarts, shut down any programs that are running. You may have to use Windows Task Manager to shut down some programs that run in the background. Refer to your Windows documentation for help on using Task Manager.
Warning: Do not shut down Windows Explorer (may appear as “Explorer” in the Task Manager).
- Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. The installation wizard should appear automatically. If it does not, on the Start menu, click Run. In the window that appears, type D:\Launch.exe (where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive) and click OK.
If you have downloaded AgentOffice, locate the downloaded file on your computer or network and double click the file.
- Click the Install tab. Then click the Install AgentOffice option.
- On the Agent Setup screen that appears, enter your serial number and installation code in the fields provided and click Next. These numbers can be found with the installation CD or in an e-mail you may have received from AgentOffice.
- On the welcome screen, click Next.

- Click Next in the Choose Directory Where the Data Files Reside screen.
- On the Select Program Group screen, click Next.
- On the Start Copying Files screen, click Next.
- This screen shows your current settings for the Program Files Directory (the directory where the software will be installed), Data Files Directory and the Program Folder (the folder where the software icons will be located). If you want to change any of these locations, click Back to reach the screen with the options you want to change. Return to this screen when you are done and click Next.
- On the Setup Status screen, the progress of the install displays.
- On the New Registration screen, if you want to register the program now via the Web, click Yes. To register the program later, click No. (You must register the program to receive an unlock code for the program and to receive technical support.)
Note – AgentOffice registration must only be performed once. If you have already registered the product, you can select No to the registration. The database has the registration information and the install is connecting with the already registered AgentOffice product.
- If you click Yes you are redirected to a page on the AgentOffice Registration Web site where you can enter your registration information. Follow the instructions on the Web site to register the program.
- If you click No, you will be able to access the AgentOffice Registration Web site on the unregistered screen which appears when you first launch the AgentOffice program.
